Welcome to the IDC

I feel that if you are going to talk it you better be able to walk it.
If you are going to preach it, then you better be living it.
If you don't know it, then don't teach it.

Witches get a bad wrap and that really bothers me but I will not let it bring me down.
People always have to have something to talk about and the more they talk about it,
the more they want curious people to find out what it really is all about.
I plan on putting a lot of info on here so please browse a way...

Come on in and sit a spell with your favorite special blend and cackle a little if you must.
Maybe we can cast a spell or two.

Maypole, marriage and playfulness

Make fairy and rock gardens

Cut Yule log

Beltain is opposite on the wheel of the year from Samhain. It is the second of the great high celebrations. The spirits are likely to come out again to visit with us. Remember that on the other side of the world they are celebrating Samhain, so the veil is once again thinner than normal. This would be a good time to visit with past relatives and place some food out for any passing spirits that might be looking to visit.

Summer has now come into play and it is the time of the great marriage. Back in the day this is when people would marry each other. In some cultures the men would get on one side of the hedge and the women on the other, so they could not see who was where. They would dance around and when the music stopped they would reach through the hedges and grab a partner. They would then become handfasted to that partner. If they stayed together for a year and a day then they would be married, if not then they could do the dance again and each go their separate ways.

Now is the time for the Great Rite and bonfires. It is a time for beauty, fertility and love spells. Dance with the Faye and feel the youthfulness within you. Let your wild side show as you dance the dance of the maypole. Prosperity and growth are all around so feel those positive energies flow within you and let them flow.

Celebration Example

One tradition says to get up first thing in the morning and wash your face in the May dew to retain youthful beauty.

Several traditions like to perform the Great Rite which is a re-enactment of the marriage of the God and Goddess. This is a type of sympathy magick for blessings, prosperity and fertility. Many also perform sex magicks during this time because it is a fire festival.

Another highly performed act is the erecting of the Maypole. This is a phallic symbol for the Sun God coming into his power. Attach ribbons to the top and then have everyone grab a ribbon, then dance and weave the great Maypole. This is lots of fun and make sure you have lots of long ribbon. I remember one year we thought we had enough ribbon but it wasn’t quite long enough and it was a little funny looking but we had lots of fun, so all was good.
